Term Three - Weeks Three and Four

Week Three

Rahina: Similar shapes - Establishing and using similarity.

Ratu: Using algebra - Using algebraic equations in geometric problems.

Raapa: Proofs - How to construct a geo
metric proof.

Rapare: Revision - Preparation for Geometric Reasoning assessment

Ramere: Test - Geometric Reasoning assessment

Week Four

TOPIC FIVE - PATTERNS AND GRAPHS

Rahina: Revision - Going over the basics of linear graphs.

Ratu: Standard form - Graphing equations of the form y = mx + c.

Raapa: Alternative for
m - Graphing equations of the form ax + by = c.

Rapare: Applications - What the gradient and y-intercept often represent in real-life applications.

Ramere: Simultaneous Equations - How simultaneous equations relate to graphs. focus on Greaphics Calculator skills.

Homework:
  • Current homework for graphs Nulake pages 77-82
  • Older homework for graphs Nulake pages 70-75
  • Older homework for geometry Nulake pages 152-173
 Results for Geometric Reasoning:
  • 2 Not Achieves
  • 7 Achieves
  • 19 Merits
  • 2 Excellences
These results are very concerning and indicates further work is needed on this topic. If you want to get some extra practice and have already tried the stuff in Nulake and Gamma then I recommend checking out some old assessments at this page: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/qualifications/ncea/subjects/mathematics/expired-standards/. The relevant standard is Level One 90153.

  1. Do you know any websites that have word problems for algebra?

  2. Well first I recommend you try all of the past papers you can find, and work through the problems in Gamma (there are two chapters with algebraic word problems).

Here are a few websites I found with alegbraic word problems. However, neither is a New Zealand page, so they aren't necessarily the right level.
