Revision Sessions

Thank-you to all of those who attended the revision session on Friday, really awesome to see so many of you there!

Last sessions are:
Monday: 3:15-4:30 in B23
Tuesday: 10am onwards in B23

Results for Trig will be available at these sessions if you don't have them already.

I highly recommend you try out some of the past papers on the NZQA site before these sessions. Each one should also include a marking schedule.

Papers for current standards are here. You should work through all six (two per topic) of these.

Papers for the old standards are here.
  • 90147 is Algebra which includes some patterns questions (do not complete all of the papers).
  • 90148 is Graphs (no patterns included and no exponentials, but good practice for parabolas).
  • 90152 is Trig (includes bearing practice).
  • 90153 is Geometric Reasoning (very useful practice - do as many as possible).
  • 90154 is Probability (skip any question saying simulation)
Good luck for the last of your study and the first of your exams.

Revision for Exams

Details of the exam:

  • The maths exam is on the 14th November at 9:30am.
  • Exam rooms will be posted near B/P block. Arrive early to check your room.

Topics Covered:
  • 1.3 Patterns and Graphs - Covering linear, quadratic and exponential patterns and graphs.
  • 1.6 Geometric Reasoning - Covering Pythagoras, trigonometry, angle rules, similar shapes and bearings.
  • 1.12 Chance and Data - Covering interpreting statistics and graphs and calculating and interpreting probabilities.

How to study:
  • Read through all of your notes - check if you are missing any!
  • Try practice assessments to work out where your gaps are.
  • Practice Achieve questions only if you are slow or struggling with a particular skill.
  • Practice Merit questions to ensure you have a solid grounding in these skills.
  • Look for as many different Excellence questions as you can to try different types.
  • Bring any questions to a revision session - Monday after prize giving in B23, Wednesday after school in P7, Friday all day in the seminar room.
What to study:
  • Finish page 70-271 in Nulake. Retry any questions that you found difficult first time around.
  • Good pages in Gamma: 144-146 (quadratic patterns), 149-151 (exponential patterns), 190-191 (finding equations), 193-194 (exponential graphs), 224-228 (linear graphs), 229-233 (quadratic graphs), 242-247 (parallel lines), 250-252 (polygons and tessellation), 261-263 (similar shapes), 285-298 (circle rules), 301-303 (geometric proofs), 349-351 (multivariate data), 363-365 (bivariate data), 394-397 (comparing data), 400-401(time series), 409-417 (interpreting data) 409-417, 428-431 (tree diagrams), 433-435 (expected values).
  • Complete or revise all practice tests issued during the year.
  • Look on the NZQA web page for tests from previous years.
Other info:
  • Bring food for a shared lunch on Monday spell one. Drinks provided.
